Bryan County Schools has been closely monitoring Hurricane Milton in coordination with our emergency services partners. Currently, Bryan County is under a Tropical Storm Warning and a State of Emergency, as declared by Governor Kemp. The projected winds (gusts and sustained) for tomorrow have become concerning. When you consider the projected winds and the debris and weakened trees from Hurricane Helene, it is not worth risking student or staff safety by having students reporting to bus stops and/or student drivers and buses traveling the roads.
For these reasons, Bryan County Schools has made the difficult decision to close all schools on Thursday, October 10, 2024 for students and staff.
We know the uncertainty of storms like these, as the path and impact can shift unexpectedly as we saw with Hurricane Helene. We truly hope for a calmer day, but the safety and well-being of our students and staff must always be our top priority.
We understand that this may cause inconvenience for some families, and we sincerely appreciate your support and understanding as we navigate these challenging circumstances that we have faced in the first two months of the school year.
Please stay safe, and we will keep you updated as the situation evolves.
Note: All community education classes will be canceled for Thursday, October 10, 2024. School-based athletic and extra-curricular activities will be handled by the school. Please expect communication from the schools regarding these activities.
